Position Summary
Unitrans, a leader in transport and logistics, is seeking a highly skilled and qualified Artisan - Diesel Mechanic to join our team in George. This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated professional to inspect, maintain, and service a fleet of buses and related auxiliary equipment. As a Diesel Mechanic, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability and safety of our fleet, adhering to company policies and legal requirements while maintaining the highest standards of workmanship.
Key Responsibilities
Your duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Fleet Maintenance: Conducting regular services and maintenance on buses to ensure optimal performance and safety.
- Breakdown Repairs: Attending to breakdowns, diagnosing issues, and carrying out necessary repairs promptly and efficiently.
- Checklist Compliance: Ensuring all services and repairs are performed according to company checklists and procedures.
- Legal Compliance: Maintaining vehicles in line with legal requirements and company policies.
- Health and Safety: Applying health and safety rules and regulations during all repairs, services, and breakdown attendances.
- Accident Response: Ensuring appropriate safety measures are taken when attending to accidents or breakdowns.
- Administrative Duties: Performing general administrative tasks related to vehicle maintenance and repairs.
- Team Collaboration: Working closely with managers and team members to ensure seamless operations and timely repairs.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must meet the following criteria:
- Education: Matric (Grade 12) or National Certificate.
- Qualification: Qualified Artisan (Trade Test) with a minimum of 5 years of experience.
- Experience:
- Proven experience in a transport and logistics environment.
- Sound knowledge of servicing and maintaining buses.
- Licenses: A valid driver’s license.
- Other Requirements:
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
- Own transport is essential.
- Skills:
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
